Multi-Location Counseling Practice: 22% More Clicks From Google

Published on
October 28, 2026

I won't and can't guarantee rankings or visibility. But here's what I did, and what I think is helpful.

The at-bat: Base hit.
Client: Multi-location counseling practice, four offices
Work: SEO content, technical SEO and Google Business Profiles
Comparison window: July 26 to October 25, 2025 (before we started in November 2025) vs. the same weeks in 2026

The problem

The psychological testing page, one of the practice's most important services, had a noindex tag on it, which hid it from Google completely. Pages for closed offices were still live. A regional hub page was competing with two nearby office pages for the same searches, and location pages were being indexed more than once because of tracking links. Several of the conditions the practice treats every day had no page at all.

The roadmap

Technical first, then pages built from the people who do the work.

  • Removed the noindex tag hiding the psychological testing page.
  • Redirected closed-office pages, fixed the duplicate indexing on location pages and untangled the hub page that was competing with its own offices.
  • Cleaned up the sitemap, redirects and broken links.
  • Interviewed the practice's counselors and turned their expertise into new pages: anxiety, depression, trauma and PTSD, teen therapy, EMDR and a rebuilt psychological testing page.
  • Built audience pages for athletes, college students and high performers, and worked them into the site's navigation and internal links.
  • Checked credentials on every provider page and added schema for providers and each location.

What moved

  • Clicks from Google went from 873 to 1,069 (+22%).
  • Average position went from 33.9 to 23.6.
  • Counseling service pages went from 0 clicks to 47 over the same weeks.

These leave out searches that included the practice's name.

What didn't

Times shown in Google fell 27% over the same window, from 165,849 to 120,447. So the gain didn't come from showing up more often. It came from ranking higher on the searches people actually click.

About the data: these numbers come from Google Search Console and measure Google search only. The practice's appointment requests go through its own systems, and I'm not claiming any specific number of them came from this work.

How I work

That's why technical SEO is always so big to start with. That's why a roadmap is vital to follow. Not just an "SEO partner" that sells blogs, guest articles and backlinks.
