Christmas Light Installer: Page 5 to Page 2 on a Brand-New Domain

Published on
October 28, 2026

I won't and can't guarantee rankings or visibility. But here's what I did, and what I think is helpful.

The at-bat: Sacrifice bunt. Starting over on a brand-new domain gave up years of history to set up the next season.
Client: Christmas light installation company, Georgia
Work: Website design and build in Webflow, local SEO and Google Business Profile updates
Comparison window: the site's first 30 days (July 7 to August 5, 2026) vs. its most recent 30 (September 26 to October 25, 2026)

The problem

The company lost access to its original .com domain, and with it every bit of search history the old site had built. The city pages, which had been bringing in local traffic, went with it. The existing copy also had stats in it that couldn't be backed up and service descriptions that repeated across pages.

The roadmap

Sort out the domain first, then build it right.

  • Assessed the domain situation before touching anything, then moved the business to a new domain.
  • Designed and built a new website in Webflow.
  • Ran launch fixes for redirects, canonical tags, social previews and meta descriptions, and added LocalBusiness schema sitewide.
  • Pointed the Google Business Profile links at the new site and submitted the new sitemap to Google.
  • Rebuilt the city pages that were lost with the old domain, then optimized the homepage, service pages and individual city pages.
  • Removed the unsupported stats and rewrote the duplicate service descriptions.
  • Published new content, starting with a guide to what goes into a Christmas light installation quote, and set up keyword tracking.

What moved

  • Average position on Google went from 45.9 to 14.6, roughly page 5 to page 2.
  • For Christmas light installation searches specifically, average position went from 52.8 to 18.9.
  • Times shown in Google went from 1,270 to 2,703.
  • Clicks went from 12 to 86.

What didn't

The click jump overlaps with the start of Christmas lighting season, when more people are searching, so it can't all be credited to the work. Page 2 is also not page 1. Whether this season pays off won't be known until it's over.

About the data: these numbers come from Google Search Console and measure Google search only. They don't include calls or quote requests, and I'm not claiming any specific number of those came from this work.

How I work

That's why technical SEO is always so big to start with. That's why a roadmap is vital to follow. Not just an "SEO partner" that sells blogs, guest articles and backlinks.

Seasonal business? Rankings take months, so the work for next season starts now. Talk to Stephen.
